The nano.org project is currently in early beta testing. During beta testing the procedure for registration described below DOES NOT APPLY - instead new users are directly invited to participate by existing participants or by the site Operators. However, login does proceed as described here, initially using the password supplied to the user in the invitation email. Read more about the beta test, and how to join in, on this page.
It is straighforward to register on nano.org to obtain the 'Member' classification which permits one to begin contributing to discussions in the General Forum. Suitably qualified Members can then request an upgrade to Scholar classification, at which point they can contribute to the Articles section, including uploading papers etc.
Registration begins when you click on the "Login" option at the right hand end of the black bar immediately below the nano.org banner. (If the word Login does not appear and you are using a communal machine, it may be because another Member has been using the site - try quitting and restarting the browser.)
When you click the "Login" link, a small panel will appear immediately below. Click the small 'register' link at the bottom of this panel.
If you encounter any difficultly here, you can instead follow this link to reach the registration form.
The form contains a number of fields to fill out. Those which much be completed in order to submit the form are in bold, the others are optional. Please enter your real name! We do not accept pseudonyms of any kind, and accounts registered under false or slang names will be deleted, along with associated posts.
For those wishing to subsequently request Scholar rank, it is important to use an institutional email address. For example, an MIT based researcher might have several email addresses including jbloggs@mit.edu and j.bloggs@gmail.com. The former is an institutional address which carries the implication that the individual is affiliated with MIT, whereas the latter is a type of address available to any member of the public. As a part of the process of establishing the identity of a user who requests Scholar rank, the email address may be examined - therefore it is important to enter an address associated with your university, company or other research institution.
Having completed and submitted the form, you will receive an email containing an HTML link to click. This will activate your account, and you can then login using the small "Login" panel encountered earlier. Note that your user name for login is your email address.
